Winners of the first Batchelor Prize and the First Hill Prize

Professor Howard Stone, of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has won the first Batchelor in Fluid Mechanics. This newly established Prize is sponsored by Cambridge University Press and the Journal of Fluid Mechanics.

Professor Michael Ortiz, of the California Institute of Technology, has won the first Rodney Hill Prize in Solid Mechanics. This newly established Prize is sponsored by Elsevier Limited.

Both prizes are awarded under the auspices of IUTAM. The awards of US$25,000 each will be presented at the 22nd ICTAM, which will take place in Adelaide in August 2008.
